'Homeless in the City' w/ Dionne (7)

Thursday, February 18, 2016.

In 2016, I'll be choosing a random homeless person each week to take to lunch. I have titled this movement "Homeless in the City," and today, it led me to a woman named Dionne. Dionne was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. Dionne says she gave birth to a baby in her twenties who died at four months old. It was after the death of this child that she says she began to experience depression and loneliness. She says she began to use and eventually became addicted to cocaine to cope with the loss. Due to her depression, she was unable to keep working and eventually found herself homeless and has been homeless ever since. Although she is now fifty, Dionne says it's as if her baby died yesterday and she stills battles depression over this death. She sleeps on the streets of Atlanta and says she strives to live a Christ-like life and is praying that God sends her a husband soon. She loves to dance and says that Jermaine and Janet Jackson are her favorite singers. We dined at 'Mama Mia's' in downtown Atlanta. God bless you, Dionne.
