'Homeless in the City' w/ Heather & Steve (19)

Thursday, June 16, 2016. In 2016, I'll be choosing a random homeless person to treat to lunch each week. In this week's 'Homeless in the City,' I was led to a couple named Heather and Steve. Heather and Steve have been dating for nearly three years. They originally met in Panama City Beach, FL while they both were hitch-hiking trying to arrive to Washington, D.C. Ever since they met, they have remained inseparable and in love. Steve does construction work when he finds it, but doesn't find enough work to constantly feed himself and provide shelter. Heather is unable to work because she has an untreated broken bone and is unable to stand for long periods of time. Steve says he is a recovering Cocaine addict and has been clean for two years. They have eight children. He has five with another woman; the oldest being 13, and she has two grown children. They sleep outside due to no shelters being located in their area. We dined at Sonic's in Newport News, VA. God bless you, Heather and Steve.
